late 17th C, b&w Kakiemon porcelain bowl with “Scheveningen” decoration
Japanese export bowl, made in Arita ~1680-1700, probably from the Kakiemon kiln itself. The bowl has an elegant five-sided, lobed, design with fine painting including a man with an animal on a leash and a mixture of European and Japanese landscape items. The rim is dressed in brown kuchibeni. The base has a square ka (auspicious) mark.
